Antidepressants Lacks in Curing Depression Entirely

A study has revealed that antidepressants don’t treat a patient completely. Even after undergoing the treatment, the patient’s shows symptoms of depression like, sleeplessness, sadness and decreased concentration. It has come to light that even the widely used antidepressant fails to recognize these symptoms and therefore, they are left unchecked.

The researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center trailed a wide range of symptoms of depression-including sadness, suicidal thoughts, and change in sleep patterns, appetite or weight, concentration, outlook and energy or fatigue during and after the treatment of patients. The patients with severe depression cases showed suicidal tendencies.

Co-author of the study said that the finding of the study suggests that the use of measurement-based care techniques to identify and target residual depressive symptoms is essential to help patients return to normal function and recover from depression in the long term. But unfortunately patients suffering from depression are not provided with such treatments.

The study has forced scientists to ponder over developing more targeted antidepressant therapies to trim down depressive symptoms. It is believed that this step will also enable the scientists to better understand the interconnection between depression and concentration.
