Netherlands footage highlights collision-prediction capabilities of Tesla’s Autopilot system

A dash cam video footage recently uploaded to Twitter from the Netherlands shows how powerful the latest version -- Version 8.0 -- of Tesla’s Autopilot system is. In the footage, the autopilot system is shown to have predicted a potential car collision which no one else could foresee.

The Autopilot version 8.0 was released by Tesla this summer. When the new Autopilot version was released, Tesla CEO Elon Musk had touted the life-saving potential of the updated autopilot system.

The footage highlighting the Forward Collision Warning capabilities of the updated Autopilot system has been uploaded to Twitter by Hans Noordsij from the Netherlands, the footage has been uploaded with the permission of the driver of the Tesla car in which the Autopilot system sounded a warning of a potential crash because of an (unseen) breaking vehicle one car ahead.

With the footage showing a group of cars traveling down the A2 highway in the Netherlands, it has been confirmed by Noordsij that it was the Autopilot system which initially applied the emergency brake, before the driver could herself apply the brakes to avoid a collision.

In highlighting the collision-prediction capabilities of the Tesla Autopilot system, Noordsij said on Twitter that the autopilot radar not only predicted the collision, but also amazingly recognized what was coming two cars ahead of the driver.
