Obese seeks little pleasure from food

Obese tend to overeat, as they receive low amount of satisfaction from their food that urges to eat more to be satisfied, as stated by the scientists at the University of Texas.

The study also highlighted the fact that brains of obese become dull when they gain weight and this pokes them to eat more to acquire the same pleasure out of the food, which slowly lowers the reward response.

According to lead researcher Eric Stice, a psychologist at the university, said that the results claimed that overeating might be compared with a drug addicts craving for ever-larger doses.

"The weakened responsivity of the reward circuitry increases the risk for future weight gain in a feed-forward manner. This may explain why obesity typically shows a chronic course and is resistant to treatment," Stice added.

Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), was used in major areas of the brain (the dorsal striatum) which pumped in responses for individuals intake of a taste of chocolate milkshake (versus a tasteless solution).

Study researchers claimed that obese carry less amount of pleasure receptors when compared to thin people.

The study has come out in The Journal of Neuroscience.
