Allergy development whilst conception

Kids have high probabilities of developing allergies to food like milk and eggs, according to a Finnish study.

It was observed that babies conceived during the months of January February have 11% more chance of developing food allergies, while the ones conceived in the month of September or October have 6% chance, claims the study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

The 11th week of gestation is said to be a crucial period. It is said that during April or May the baby had the greatest vulnerability of acquiring a food allergy in childhood.

The increased levels of birch and alder pollen circulating at that time were considered to be few of the contributing factors. The stage is a significant one as it allows a fetus produce antibodies to allergens.

Kaisa Pyrhonen, of the Institute of Health Sciences at Oulu University, said, "We found a higher incidence of positive results in food allergy tests among children born in October or November than among those born in other months."

Pyrhonen added: "The incidence of such results was particularly high and especially pronounced for milk and egg among children who had their 11th gestational week in April or May, the season during which the concentrations of pollen from birch and alder are highest in the area concerned."

Allergic ailments such as asthma, hay fever and eczema are the ones which have increasing their grip in case and various theories try to explain the cause of the events.

The current study is in sync with prior researches which focus that children born in autumn or winter were more likely to suffer from eczema and wheezing.
