Jacques Chirac to face corruption charges

Jacques Chirac to face corruption charges

There is news that former French President Jacques Chirac is going to be accused of corruption charges and that he is going to stand trial on these ones. These charges go back to 1990s.

Information that was given by an anonymous official who said that the above mentioned charges are related to his alleged usage of public funds for paying salaries to his political allies. This happened when he was the mayor of Paris from 1977-85.

But the 77-year old retired politician has denied about knowing anything related to the issue.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that he has been accused of corruption. In the last case, the Paris City Council and the Chirac agreed to drop a civil suit against him by paying 2 million euros. This was in line with the graft allegations.

The second case against him which deals with salaries will be going to the court by April next year and nothing sort of reconciliation is visible at the moment.

No cases were filed against him since he was immune from prosecution in between 1995 and 2007. And one must not forget that despite these cases, Chirac was one of the most popular leaders in France.
