There are many loopholes and loose ends when it comes to insider trading. The same came once again into light when Yves Benhamou, a French doctor was arrested for tipping a hedge fund manager telling him about the problems that are related to clinical trials.
This means that Securities and Exchange Commission and the other prosecutors should focus more on the issue of insider trading. The doctor was arrested when complaints were submitted with the SEC and now it seems that the case is more complex than what it earlier seemed.
The case has demonstrated that how conflicts can develop in the field of medicines and how using that experts can advise or misadvise investors. American Securities Laws have many a pitfalls and foreigners who are not aware of the same are generally misused.
It also shows that the hedge fund industry should not dismiss last week's incident since one of the hedge fund company, FrontPoint Partners, has already suffered because of this.
Experts even caution that the $1.9 trillion industry may be in for a rude shock as the case has all the potential for showing the murky behind-the-scenes roles that has been happening.
