German nuclear waste faces agitation

Shipment of a German nuclear waste which after a four day long journey reached French reprocessing plant met with a long procession.

Close to 50,000 anti-nuclear protestors took part in the show and through obstruction of daily work they have created a lot of ruckus. They demonstrated and obstructed the passage of Castor (Cask for Storage and Transport of Radioactive material). These containers are sent to rural Gorleben.

The containers are being escorted by as many as 20,000 policemen so that these containers can reach their destination.

The delay happened in the last 20 kms of its journey where close to 3,000 demonstrators were standing on the way.

These protestors were angry that the government had decided to extend the life of Germany's 17 nuclear plants. Now, these will be closed only by 2021.

People related with the group are saying that the Castor-convoy will arrive in Gorleben but it is failure on part of government that they have shifted way away from the goal of nuclear-free world.

123 tons of highly radioactive material is present in the containers that have arrived and have been sent from their storage site in Germany.
