Recently payment was given to a group of 79 ex-MG Rover workers. This was given in favor of experts, they said that was the leading such epidemic of industrial lung disease in the earth.
Metalworking fluids caused breathing problems for some workers at the Longbridge plant. This is used by Powertrain Ltd; it is the engine building distribution of MG Rover.
In year 2004 it was found that it caused health problems and affected near about 12% of the workers.
However 79 claimants accepted an out of court settlement worth regarding £1m in total. This happened after a seven-year official battle.
An investigation was cone by a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) from 2004 to 2006 and it found that the reason of the alveolitis disease. It was none other than mist from metalworking machines. In that period of time it was broadly used all over the factory.
In an inspection it was found that the fluids were not preserved properly, it contained bacteria and other harmful substances so as to increase and cause severe respiratory diseases.
