France Agrees to Help Vietnam in Upgrading Army

Herve Morin

Herve Morin, Defense Minister for France, has accepted the proposal for the modernization of the military force in Vietnam, during his stay in Vietnam.

He appreciated the recent purchases of radar, helicopters and transport aircraft made by Vietnam.

"There is a strong demand from Vietnam for France's active participation in the modernization of its army. France is willing to meet all demands by Vietnam", he said.

In addition to the ammunition upgrade, the Companies also deliberated on levels of the effectiveness of the military forces in the two nations.

France is now planning to begin with the training sessions for the defense personnel in Vietnam.

Most of the arms and ammunitions are being supplied to the nation from Russia which is one of the communist partners of France.

Vietnam had made a proposal for the purchase of six Kilo submarines and 12 Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jets from Moscow in December.

Over the last couple of years, the nation has undergone a number of military agreements with foreign countries. The US is also one of the military allies of the Vietnam.

Other than France, the US is also providing help to Vietnam for defense forces' enhancement.
