A new contractor will be sought to clean the French Quarter, Central Business District and Warehouse District, proclaimed Mayor Mitch Landrieu's administration. Due to a quarrel over the number of customers the city's current vendor serves, it quit after providing a slew of extra services for free of charge.
The city officials are involved in an argument with SDT Waste & Debris Services LLC due to the change that is aimed at avoiding the sort of disagreement.
A city law prohibits garbage collection by city vendors at buildings with five or more units. The invitation to the bid will be posted today. St. Etienne shared that the bid will include the same street- and sidewalk-cleaning services which are covered by SDT's contract.
He added further that SDT can compete for the new contract.
Officials faced a predictable $67 million budget deficit, which consequently led to the city's latest disagreement with SDT. Officials are holding discussions with scores of municipal vendors to minimize the cost of third-party contracts.
Metro Disposal and Richard's Disposal, the city's two other major trash collectors are also discussing over the matter.
Landrieu Spokesman Ryan Berni shared that an attorney for SDT fails to agree to a new tally. He said, "When they left it with the attorney, they were not in agreement with that number. There was no agreement with that number".
