French Bank Seeks to Acquire UniCredit's Pioneer Unit

The asset management unit of Italy's UniCredit, Les Echos has unveiled that French bank BNP Paribas and Natixis accompanied with asset manager Amundi have shown their interest in acquiring Pioneer Investments.

In addition, the bank had witnessed interest from other sources as well, UniCredit Chief Executive Alessandro Profumo said on Tuesday.

However, the unit is not reported to be on sale, but it is cited to open capital to investors somewhere after the summer break, the paper posted on Wednesday.

A source from UniCredit has revealed that the bank seeks to do away with majority of the capital of the subsidiary. Besides, it also seeks to keep a stake to keep accessing its network, in a bid to develop its podium in Europe.

Pioneer is claimed to bear a value in the bracket 1.5 billion Euros ($1.98 billion) and 2.5 billion, Les Echos posted.

No one from Amundi, the asset management conglomeration of Credit Agricole and Societe Generale, or at BNP Paribas was available for comment.
