Some 4000 Passengers Stranded after French Station lightning Shut Down

The reports have revealed that nearly some 40,000 passengers remain stranded on Saturday at the initiation of the French holiday season, following lightning cut dismantled a main train station in Paris due to which trains operating from there were cancelled.

Lightening hit an electrical facility in Bretigny-sur-Orge, located on the outskirts of Paris, leading to the shutting down of the Austerlitz station and affecting 40,000 travelers, a French National Railway official reported CNN.

Also, the trains arriving at the station were re-routed to other Parisian stations, with notable delays. Passengers, who were unable to board their respective trains on Saturday, will be issued refunds.

The SNCF stated in its official Stephane Coursier to AFP, "Traffic may resume later today but more realistically is likely tomorrow morning”.

However, traffic at Austerlitz station witnessed resumption as of 6 p. m. (noon ET), CNN affiliate BFM reported, citing officials with railway agency.

The required electronic overhaul of the railway had been reportedly concluded by the evening, and traffic was speculated to run calmly by Sunday.

BFM has reported that railway officials had already cautioned people that there could be some delays and told passengers to postpone their vacation trips.
