Sales of luxury cars surge by 20%

The pre-tax profits of Pendragon's Stratstone dealership whose brands include Ferrari, BMW and Aston Martin have increased by 48 percent to £15.7 million for the first six months of 2010.

The sales of luxury cars have increased by 20 percent in the six months to June 30.

The gross profits of Stratstone have increased from £84.4 million in previous year to £93.9 million in first half of the year.

Pendragon has post a strong growth in the market with the 14.1 percent increase in the sales of new car.

The company sells its vehicles through Evans Halshaw dealerships and sales at these franchises increased by 13.1 percent.

The sales of used car have grown by 15.9 percent due to increase in the market share.

In UK, the new car registrations have increased by 24.6 percent in the first half of the year.

There has been slow demand for the commercial vans and the revenues at these dealerships, running under the brand of Chatfields, declined by 31 percent.

The operating margin at Pendragon increased from 1.9 percent in previous year to 2.2 percent due to cost cutting.
