The Liberal Party of Canada has greeted the decision that has been made the Federal Court that asks to accelerate the trial for the application of any ban from the Canadian Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities to block any given judgment by the Conservative Government, so as to make the 2011 long-form census voluntary.
If there had been any cuts made in the obligatory long-form census, it would have inflicted a serious level of injustice to Francophone and Acadian communities all across the nation.
It is very vital that there are reliable statistics, so as to elucidate the programs and services that have been crafted specially for Francophones; else, there would be a drop in the vivacity of the French lingo throughout Canada, as said by the leader of the Opposition.
The Harper Government should realize at not using the threat of prison terms that are in relation to civic duty as a justification.
Mr. Ignatieff said that all political parties in Ottawa, leaving the Conservatives, are prepared to eradicate prison sentences.
The decision is no less than a punch on the face of the Government. The court signaled that it kept aside the alternative of the verdict offered by the Government.
Mauril Belanger, Ottawa Vanier MP said that the court recognized the census verdict could become unlawful since it would reduce French services.
