Roma Forced To Leave their Homes Due To Poverty

It is believed that because of poverty, Roma communities in Europe are often chucked out from their homes in Bulgaria and Romania, which are the two most impoverished members of the European Union.

"Here we are like vagabonds. We don't have work, we have nothing", said Gheorghe Ion, one of the Roma who was sent back to Bucharest by the Government of France, which has started the practice of expelling illegal Roma immigrants.

A Roma family, who left the French city of Grenoble, told AFP that they will try to find work at their home place, but it is very difficult since their country is poorer than France. They further said that France presents lots of opportunities for them to earn money.

One of the most terrible recessions in the 27-nation EU bloc has also hit Romania since 2009 and it is believed that their economy will again contract this year and that their Government needs to take drastic austerity measures.

The Government of Romania is also required to decrease the public sector salaries by 25%, so as to get a loan from the International Monitory Fund.

Not only Roma, but many Romanians have been forced to go abroad to try their luck and most of them are heading to Italy and Spain, while some land in France.

Mihai Neacsu, Director of the Roma rights organization Amare Rromentza said that most of the Roma migrate to rich countries as they belong to very poor communities.
