Alitalia to join Air France-KLM, Delta

Alitalia will be joining an alliance of Air France-KLM and Delta, which will give the group access to Europe's third largest market, Reuters stated.

The partnership with an alliance of Air France-KLM and Delta Air Lines means that the venture would represent around 26% of the total trans-Atlantic capacity, with more than $10 billion yearly profits.

After struggling for years and facing strikes and inefficiencies, the Italian carrier Alitalia sought bankruptcy protection in 2008. But last year, it was reopened again as a private airline by Italian investors.

It had a very challenging restarting, suffered with low number of passengers and delays in flight which resulted in lots of complaint from the customers. But later in the first half quarter of the year, the airline showed some improvement, with 10% rising profit, said Rocco Sabelli, the airline's Chief Executive.

He further explained that the airline would try its best to increase capital in the coming next months. He also said that Air France-KLM has decided to acquire Italian airline.

Air France will reduce its employees by March 2013 via voluntary departures, union sources reported on Monday. Europe's biggest airline with partner KLM, will decrease its workforce by some 4,100 through voluntary departures, said Jose Rocamorra, of the CGT union.
