New Yorkers could breathe a great sigh of relief as eight years ago New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg started his campaign against smoking. As a result, the major public indoors including bars, restaurants, hotels and office buildings has now legally become smoke-free.

Yes, New York City a healthier place and the addicts are also offered kits to help them keep their at bay banning gruesome television ads that try to keep them from resorting back to the old habit.

The site of the world’s most famous New Year’s Eve party beaches and even plazas, the crossroads of the world, Times Square and many other outdoors including city parks are places of no smoking. The vortex of tourism, New York brings smokers and nonsmokers in great numbers. The council with 36 to 12 voted to ban smoking in Times Square.

However some NY city council members desired for a less-drastic solution and also came up with the idea of having the ban but devote smoking areas on the beach or patches of the park.

The members quoted that the idea of lifting ban in some places is better than an all-out ban although it’s not a great idea. The city also intends to provide a lot more rules to enforce antilittering laws in those areas and to contain the spread of cigarette butts. Many believe that the antismoking campaign has been a great public service, but now the mayor and council have overreached.
