One OFW has been detected HIV-positive

This year a new human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) case has been found. An Overseas Filipino worker (OFW) has tested HIV and the result was found positive. He is of 28 years of age and had arrived in Cebu last month. The original name of the person is not known yet. He is called as Eric who has been working in the Middle East for last two years. Last month he had returned to Cebu for the Sinulog celebration.

Eric had a medical check-up at the AIDS-Free Philippines on the second week of January. This was assisted by Dr. Joseff Bullecer. At present he is undergoing counseling sessions after the positive confirmation of the HIV.

Eric had admitted that in the Middle East he had an active sex life with both sexes. For this reason he was found HIV positive and now he can no longer work in the Middle East as stated by Dr. Bullecer.

Bullecer has also said that, number of OFWs will have positive HIV test would probably soar this year. Last year 41 HIV cases were found in the whole of Cebu in AIDS Free Philippines.
