As the Montana House of Representatives repeal the state's six-year-old medical marijuana law, it spurred the national debate about the medical use of marijuana.
Mike Milburn, a Republican and sponsor of the repeal bill, said that the medical use of marijuana creates a pretext for encouraging recreational use among youngsters and it opens the way to full legalization.
The State Senate, which is controlled by republicans, still has to vote on it again and if passed then it would have to face the desk of Gov. Brian Schweitzer, a Democrat.
Without taking a clear stand, Mr. Schweitzer stated that there is an urgent need to tighten the policies against it as its business is crossing all the regulatory boundaries.
"We tried prohibition," said Representative Diane Sands, a Democrat. "Marijuana has been in our community for years; it is not going away," she added. "We have to deal with that fact."
It's not only Montana but other states are also grappling with the same issue of usage of medical marijuana. New Mexico's new Republican governor, Susana Martinez showed a major interest in the repeal this year.
