A couple of infants lost their lives in the United States due to which there has been a recall of 1.7 million video baby monitors. A voluntary recall had been started by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission last Friday due to the choking and strangulation hazards caused by the video monitor cords.
The recall has been issued for Summer Infant Audio & Video monitors which were responsible for two out of the seven deaths that have been reported due to cord strangulation since the year 2004.
Last year in March, an infant girl aged only 10 months old dies due to strangulation by the cord when she was in her crib. Again back in November last year a 6-month old lost his life due to strangulation caused by the cord that was kept beside the changing table.
Parents of infants are being urged by Summer Infant Inc., the producer, to properly go through the instructions before using and to never leave the cord lying within 3 feet of the baby.
The company is now going to add labels to their products so as to give an improved clarification and warning to the consumers regarding the potential hazards and the safety risks.
