Derogatory doctors' slang moving out

As medical practitioners' become more and more aware that patients can have a look at the notes prepared by doctors, there is a growing demand that use of derogatory doctors' slang is stopped. And in due course of time that is going to happen.

There are many acronyms that are associated with doctors including FLK for funny-looking kid, DGT (drunk, got thumped), LOBNH (lights on but nobody home) and Father Ted. These are used for storing information in medical files, which is eventually saved on national electronic system, but have become outdated.

These have been scrutinized in the beginning as well since data and information has become available in electronic form and that is the reason why the so much talks about it now.

In some of the cases, the court has even asked the doctors to keep their humorous comments to themselves as it may hurt the feeling of a patient.

Doctors are allowed to censor their notes only in the case, it is read in court and that is where they have to explain the acronyms. It is a practice found in British hospitals.
