The Chinese government has revealed to use the treatment procedure developed in B. C for fighting against HIV and AIDS from which 740,000 people have been infected from HIV and 110,000 with AIDS.

The "treatment as prevention" has been adopted by China, has been pioneered by Vancouver‘s St. Paul's Hospital based BC centre for Excellence in HIV/ AIDS.

Spokesman, Graham Pollock, of BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS described the antiretroviral therapy (HAART) given to HIV infected people as "gold-standard pills" for treating the disease.

China and the BC centre had worked together to develop the treatment procedure for which results have been published in last year’s edition of British medical journal, The Lancet.

Due to HAART coverage, the numbers of HIV infections among injection-drug users have fallen drastically by 50% every year since 2007.

Director, National Centre for AIDS/ STD Control and Prevention in China, Dr. Zunyou Wu, said, "The expansion of HAART treatment throughout the world is critical to containing and curbing the global HIV and AIDS pandemic", and further stated "We look forward to working with China to ensure that its treatment-as-prevention program is based on the best available scientific evidence and maximizes individual and community health benefits".

China claimed that by following this model of treatment, it will be able to completely control the wide spread of the disease by 2015.
