In a new research, it has been theoretically confirmed that a few fertility hormones can make a women more prone to developing brain-wasting Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
The brain-wasting Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is spread by prions, infectious and misfolded proteins, these are responsible for causing BSE. This is also known as mad cow disease in cattle.
As per the researchers, the risk is theoretical as there is no case reported about a woman contracting CJD from the hormone products. The researchers in Canada, France and the United States of America confirmed the existence of prions in fertility hormones derived from urine.
The researchers agreed that the risk is small. There is no confirmation of any immense damage. They believe that there is a lot more research required to confirm the exact affect and damage.
There are other synthetic hormones available but women normally opt for the urine-based fertility products. It has also been seen that the synthetic hormones are not affective in a lot of women.
There are around 10,000 Canadians affected by the brain-wasting Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. As per the researchers they can theoretically pass on the prion proteins in their blood or urine.
The researchers are studying the possible options to make women safe from the damage theoretically caused by a few fertility hormones.
