Legionella bug is likely to affect people

Lately a bacterium named legionella has been detected by health officials in a Dundee hotel's leisure club.

It has started affecting people who visit the club at the Landmark Dundee. A man was hospitalised after visiting the club. He is being cured for Legionnaires' disease.

Not only this near about 103 guests and staff have also experienced flu-like symptoms from over the previous weeks.

On Wednesday NHS Tayside had said that most of the people were expected to have Pontiac Fever. This is the initial form of Legionnaires. It is caused by the same bacteria.

To overcome the scattering of this illness, officials from NHS Tayside's health protection team and Dundee City Council have started their investigation.

Moreover the leisure club has been closed temporarily from 17th of March. The research teams were systematically chatting with the hotel to decide what the next step should be taken.

But till now no more cases of Legionnaires' disease have been found expect the man who is currently being treated at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

According to Dr Finn Romanes, NHS Tayside consultant in public health medicine, they have at present 103 people who are identified with flu-like illness along with a respiratory infection.
