Stopping the Treatment Might Help Preventing Risks of Hormone Therapy

Bringing a good news for the women in their 50’s, a study conducted by the researchers of the Washington University School of Medicine has found that women could avoid the health risks associated with the estrogen hormone therapy just by stopping the treatment.

Graham Colditz, a Professor at the Washington University School of Medicine wrote an editorial along with the study which mentioned that although stopping the treatment helped but it didn’t mean that there won’t be any harmful effects if the patient would keep taking it for more than five or ten years.

To reach to these conclusions, researchers included the same women in their study who participated in the initial study which highlighted the concerns about the safety of hormone therapy.

This research, titled Women's Health Initiative, was funded by the federal government and it also found a strong link between the hormones like estrogen and strokes, blood clots and fewer hip fractures.

All the participants of this study had gone through hysterectomy which is known to be the second most common surgery among the women and doctors remove the uterus of the patient in this surgery.
