Officials Suggest Driving in an Economical Manner

Every single person is looking for different ways to save on fuel after its prices went 30 cents per gallon in the past month, 70 cents since January and more than a dollar in the past year.

People are using cruise-control, cleaning out their trunk and employing supermarket gas cards in order to save few dollars.

Steve Miller, Manager of AAA Car Care Plus in Grandview Heights is of opinion that he would not go to the other side of the town just to save a few cents as it was quite possible to do it by driving patiently and avoiding jack-rabbit starts and frequent brakes.

According to a recent estimate by the U. S. Department of Energy, aggressive driving consumed 33% of more gasoline which comes out to be a cost of as much as $1.24 more per gallon.

Recently, Mayor Michael B. Coleman had ordered Columbus city workers to avoid idling in the government vehicles after the gas price rise in 2008.

Jennifer Rhoads, President and Chief Executive of the Ohio Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, said, “Gas prices are based on station competition and a store's cost to fill its own tanks. The latter is tied to the cost of crude oil, which has jumped because of unrest in oil-producing countries”.
