Ford Intends to Focus on Its Own Brand

Joe Hinrichs, Head of Ford's Asia-Pacific and African operations, stated that Ford Motor Co. has no intention to launch an indigenous brand in china with joint-venture partner Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd, as it prefers to focus on its own brand.

Changan Automobile, which is said to be a three-way partnership with Ford Motor and Mazda Motor Corp in China, stated that, the joint venture was considering rolling out its own brand.

Also, Foreign and Chinese carmakers revealed plans to enhance investment by introducing new models in China as Shanghai's auto show opened with major focus on the world's largest car market.

Volkswagen's new retro-styled Beetle, General Motors' new Chevrolet Malibu, Buick Envision’s China-only Baojun 630, and France's PSA Group introducing its Citroen DS5 were part of the world premieres at the show.

However, since this is the first auto show since the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan (base of majority of auto components) Shanghai will allow the industry and analysts to gauge the impact of the catastrophe on the sector.

China’s auto sales according to reports, has risen above 32% last year, as the nation’s economy powered out of the world economic downturn.

Carmakers have stated the importance of China in the auto mobile business and the US. giants plans to introduce 15 new vehicles to china by 2015 to support more growth in their economy and enhance its share in the world’s leading market.
