Waiting Procedure at Emergency Wards to Change Soon

Statistical reports from emergency departments in hospitals on Vancouver Island have seen more than 290,000 patients in 2010-11.

It is a fact that all the patients who go to the emergency ward are seen by the doctors although some have to wait for sometime depending upon the rush. From now on, there will bea change of waiting protocols. The protocols say that patients are first assessed by the nurses and the doctors check the patients after getting the feedback from the nurses. It has been reported that the waiting procedures depends on the criticalness of the patient. It won’t depend on which patient came first but it will depend on the criticalness of the patient.

Patients with very heavy injuries will be treated by the doctors on priority basis. On the other hand, if any patients’ health condition decreases abruptly during waiting then that patient will be seen by the doctor without any delay.

"Emergency staff is committed to providing high-quality emergency care as quickly as possible to all patients", said Dr. Robert Burns, VIHA's Executive Medical Director Emergency, and Trauma.

The health officials claimed that people should take proper appointment if there is no emergency issue and patients in the emergency ward will be attended on the basis of the criticalness.
