According to reports, the local charity motorcycle event, for the first time, will be held outside Edmonton city and the organizers have expressed that the city’s noise bylaw is responsible for the action.
However, the Motorcycle Scavenger Hunt, which is in its third year, has always been held in the city in the past years and there were fewer participants then, owing to the new bylaw.
Roxie Malone-Richards, the organizer said, “Our attendance was cut in half last year; I had riders come and tell me they're not going to participate and they're not willing to take a chance in getting a $250 ticket for charity”.
Also, the city councilor expressed that the bylaw was not the reason for the event holding outside the city and the participants can have their bikes checked and tested.
He further stated, “I understand they're frustrated, but what they should be doing is getting their bike checked”. The event will be taking place on Saturday on the 23rd of July and the money raised will be given to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.
Moreover, last year, out of the 115 tickets that were for the motorcycles, the city reported that 60 were settled in court, and twenty people didn’t show up in court, as they were convicted in absence while the other 31 people paid fines.
