Clostridium difficile or C. difficile is one of the most common infections spawned from hospitals as well as long term care homes that trigger illness including diarrhea. The lethal virus is communicable through physical contact and executes around 200 people across Ontario, every year.

On Tuesday, the Guelph General Hospital has declared an outbreak of the deadly virus. Earlier in May, the hospital has reported seven new cases and than four in June, a significant increase as compared to the monthly average of one or two cases.

The interim President and Chief Executive of the Niagara Health System, Dr. Sue Matthews, said that hospitals are attempting high to curb the infection and suggested people to restrict their hospital visits. Further, he notified to employee extra cleaners in the hospital premises.

Additionally, Ontario NDP Leader, Andrea Horwath has assured a full investigation into the NHS. “Families in the Niagara region are frustrated and they have every right to be”, she stated in a statement on Wednesday. “Like many communities across the province they’re finding a health system that’s unresponsive, unaccountable and just not focused on the people they serve. That has to change”.

Simultaneously, a Spokeswoman for Minister of Health and Long-Term Care has notified the media that authorities are considering the outbreak seriously.
