Mammograms to Be Received by Women with Less Risk After Three to Four Years: Stu

Women with lower risk of breast cancer have been advised to have a mammogram after every three or four years.

Earlier, the panel of the U. S. Preventive Services Task Force had advised the women to take benefit from mammogram in every two years, but the new study revealed that the women at low risk for breast cancer can save their lives by having a mammogram every three or four years.

Park Nicollet Health Services in Minneapolis, Doctor and the lead researcher of the study, John Schouseboe stated, "The benefits of mammography are going to depend a lot on what your underlying risk is, and the current guidelines look only at age".

Leaving the exceptional cases the women aged between 50 and 74 had been advised to have mammogram every two years, till now.

The researchers observed the facts of two national surveys that considered the occurrence of mammograms and the intensity of the breast cancer in millions of women.

The researchers worked on the different theoretical situations, where in some cases it was not monitored, in few the mammograms were given after every two years and in some situation mammogram was given after every two to four years.

According to Dr. Schouseboe, women with less risk factor can go for the screening at every three to four years as it was not cost effective.
