Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) in Alberta will be coming up with the enhanced service that will provide improved forecasting abilities for the Albertans. Hence, the people will be able to plot their activities correspondingly.

By the year 2012, the reform will reprocess around 100 of the air monitoring stations of the region and 26 new forecast tools will be introduced in communities of Red Deer, Calgary and Edmonton, Fort McKay and Fort McMurray .

The new program will continue with examining of emissions from the oil and gas companies. Also, hydrogen sulphide and reduced sulphur could be checked by this new program. This new program will grade the air quality on a scale from one to 10. However, previously the rating was done considering good and poor quality.

Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq said that this program will assist the natives in the breathing issues. The National Air Quality Health Index will help the Albertans in understanding the air quality.

Alberta Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. André Corriveau stated, “Alberta enjoys good air quality most of the time, but it’s important that those who are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution have information at their fingertips to take precautions should air quality deteriorate”.
