South Korean Scientists Created Glow Dog

If somebody comes across the news that there is a dog which glows in the fluorescent color, when ultraviolet light falls on them, then he might be taken aback with a shock. But it is a reality, that a research team from Seoul National University (SNU) has developed a dog using cloning techniques.

The research that got published in the Genesis, an international journal, took four years and 3.2 billion was used in the research and other mandatory tests. Researchers told that this genetically modified female beagle is named Tegon, born in 2009, glows if a doxycycline antibiotic is given to her.

Scientists told that the ability to grow could be turned on and off, if drug is added to its food. According to scientist, this technique could help to find solution for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.

Lead researcher Byeong-Chun Lee said that the gene which led the dog to glow could be substituted with genes that trigger fatal human diseases. He informed that the somatic cell nuclear transfer technology was used to create the dog, and it is the same technology that they used to make the world's first cloned dog, Snuppy, in 2005.

The scientist told that there are 268 illnesses that are common in humans and dogs, and by creating dogs, that could artificially show those disease symptoms, it would be extremely beneficial to treat human diseases.
