Fat is Killer for South Asians: Study

Weight gain can be extra perilous for South Asians than for Caucasians, claims a recent study published on Thursday.

The researchers attributed the risk to the verity that fat, which should stick to the skin in superlative case, tends to cling the organs like liver instead of the skin.

The focal disparity between Caucasians and South Asians goes down to how much space there is to store fat in the body and where it holes up, as South Asians apparently host less space to store fat under the skin than white Caucasians.

As a result, their excess fat overflows to ectopic compartments in the stomach and liver where it may well influence working.

The experts revealed that extra fats adhered to the organs can result in high lipid and glucose levels, which are warning bells for heart disease.

The study suggests that South Asians having a Body Mass Index (BMI), that can be considered healthy for Caucasians, may fancy screening for issues like diabetes and coronary artery disease.

The study recruited 108 people in all. While few of them were first/second generation immigrants from India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh, the rest Caucasian matters whose ancestry could be stretched from Europe.

The study revealed that South Asians have lower HDL cholesterol, higher total body fat but lower levels of abdominal fat, fattier livers and less lean muscle mass than their Caucasians’ counterparts.

The findings will help clarify why South Asians face weight-related health issues at lower BMI levels than Caucasians.
