A recent study has suggested that 15 minutes of exercise a day, or about 90 minutes a week, can add years to your life. Though associated benefits of regular exercising are pretty much known and even have been advocated by the UK government, this study has once again linked the effect of healthy life style with mortality rate.
After examining data on how much exercise was undertaken over the course of eight years by more than 400,000 people in Taiwan, researchers claimed that those who exercised for an average of 92 minutes per week were at
14% reduced risk of dying.
In addition, a 10% reduced risk was found in relation to cancer compared with people who didn’t follow the recommendation.
"These benefits were applicable to all age groups and both sexes, and to those with cardiovascular disease risks”, said researchers in the Lancet. "Individuals who were inactive had a 17% increased risk of mortality compared with individuals in the low-volume group”.
It has been claimed by the lead authors, Dr. Chi-Pang Wen of the National Health Research Institutes in Taiwan and Dr. Jackson Pui Man Wai of the National Taiwan Sport University that by adhering to the recommendation, mortality rate due to heart disease, diabetes and cancer could be reduced.
