In a recent study, it has been confirmed that the Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) is not a huge threat to the growing tourism and syrup production in various parts of the northeastern U. S. states and Canadian provinces.
Though the estimated 200 species were heavily present, it was reported that Asian longhorned beetle has not aggressively killed trees, as per the survey reports on areas around Ararat Street on Indian Hill in December of 2008 and in September of 2009.
Published Monday in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research, the study has out rightly claimed that there is no significant damage done to the trees. Having said that researchers from Harvard University and the U. S. Forest Service are of the opinion that attack from the arbors could pose a huge challenge for the maple trees to sustain the onslaught for a long time.
However, the researchers have endorsed the steps taken by federal state and domestic authorities to root out affected trees, so that the infestation does not cross the safe limit of 98-square-mile containment zone in Central Massachusetts and forest area throughout the Northeast.
Though the study looks similar to that done by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, it has managed to mark the most sensitive tree-category to get attacked by insects and to what extent.
