Canadian Soldier Battling for Treatment

A Canadian soldier has pledged to go on hunger strike for not being provided with medical aid by the Government. It has been reported that Pascall Lacoste, a former soldier of Canada, has exceptionally high level of uranium in his body.

An investigation over his health report has revealed that his health problems were linked with the job he performed with the Canadian Forces in Bosnia in the 1990's. Because of unusual levels of uranium, he has suffered degenerative neurological disorder as well.

His health reports sent shock waves to him and he decided that he would fight for the rights of the soldiers. There are many soldiers who might be risking their health in order to serve their country. In return, these brave soldiers at least deserve getting effective medical treatment from the Government.

The hunger strike will be conducted on Saturday. Pascall Lacosteis list hopeful that he will survive after the Remembrance Day which is every day held on November 11. He was reported saying, “If this is what my country expects from me — to die instead of being treated — then I accept my fate, except that I will do it publicly”.

The worst part of the story is that the Federal Government is planning to impose a cut of $226 million from its budget as a decline in the Second World War and Korean War vets have been observed. In such a case, it is hard to say whether or not the soldiers would be provided with effective tests to gauge the levels of uranium in their body.

At present, the authorities are holding debate over the issue. It would be decided later as to what step should be taken to safeguard the lives of soldiers. It is hoped that the Federal Government will take a positive step in providing aid for the treatment of soldiers.
