In a recent research, it has been found that UV rays might be useful. Sounds awkward for sure, but it is true. The UV rays might actually help in reducing and stunting the further growth of chicken pox. The discovery is of the view that people living in climates and temperatures that are mild, have an increased risk of getting infected of chicken pox.
Another closely related disease, Shingles, might also be prevented with the aid of UV rays. It was revealed by the lead author of the study Dr. Phil Rice, from the St. George's, University of London, that the places having high UV rates, tend to harbor less chicken pox.
He further added that UV rays are known to be destructive of many different types of viruses. This means that it might even be used for the destruction of the varicella-zoster virus, which is the root cause of the disease. The tropical areas with good amounts of sunlight available at almost all times o the year, are places where there are fewer cases of the disease.
"No one had considered UV as a factor before, but when I looked at the epidemiological studies they showed a good correlation between global latitude and the presence of the virus", he revealed further.
Chicken pox is a disease that has potential to keep people down for weeks, and is very painful and irritating as well. What's even more worrisome is that the disease is contagious. It would be very nice if there was such a medicine or a mode of treatment discovered which could conveniently cut the risks of the disease, and tend to prevent it from growing further.
It is a matter of time to see whether UV rays could prove to be a breakthrough medicine for the same.
