Government Warns BMW Owners to Park Their Cars Outside

Recently, BMW had issued a recall of over 1.3 million 5- and 6-series BMW’s from worldwide after a fault in the wiring under the hood of their engine was detected. According to the German automaker, the fault could lead to fire although there was no such case reported.

Now, Safety regulators have issued a warning to all the owners of certain BMW 5 and 6 series cars that they should avoid parking their car indoors and prefer it outdoor. This comes after the warning of risk of fire came from the carmaker. There are nearly 367,000 vehicles that have been identified of having the fault in the US. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also confirmed that due to a battery cable in certain 2004-2010 BMWs, which may have been incorrectly attached; there is a possibility of overheating and even fire. This can happen even if the car is not in use, which makes it even dangerous as car parked inside the house could even engulf the whole house.

The issue that was reported way back in 2006 did not arouse much attention due to lack of evidence, but after a fresh testing in 2011 it root cause was found after which the company issued a recall.
