A recent research has indicated that a fat gene has been found by researchers from the Harvard Medical School in the US. The gene is reported to resist diabetes and this is what has caught the attention on medical community.
The research revealed that the gene, ChREBP, has the capacity to convert glucose sugar into fatty acids, and also make insulin more sensitive. It was told that there has been another research done earlier which had examined
123 fat samples from non-diabetic people, in which it was found that the gene was far more active in patients who had a better sugar balance.
"Obesity is commonly associated with metabolic dysfunction that puts people at higher risk for diabetes, stroke and heart disease but there is a large percentage of obese people who are metabolically healthy”, said lead investigator Dr. Mark Herman from Harvard Medical School in the US.
For the research, the team had tweaked a "glucose transporter" gene in obese mice, and they found that after increasing glucose transporter levels in obese mice, that they were able to be saved from diabetes, while those who didn’t had the glucose transporter gene, were found to have developed symptoms of diabetes.
Published in the online edition of the journal Nature, the findings have certainly raised hope for those who are battling with the disease for a long time. It is even more important for people to understand the dynamics behind the disease so that they can do their bit to address the rising concern of diabetes.
There is no doubt that diabetes has become highly contentious for health experts to manage, and that’s why research work in the same field has been extensively done till now. With the study getting the deserving attention, it is believed that there could be some cure found for the disease in the time to come.
