While female infertility is a lot talked about topic, there is still lot more to be talked about the same complication in men. On the same lines, a recent research has managed to develop a gel which can boost male fertility.
So far, the treatments which women have to go through are invasive, but this research has largely focused to deal with male fertility. "We now have some compounds that are in the early stages of testing, which can make more sperm swim through cervical mucus, which means you would get more sperm into the uterus. This should increase natural fertility”, said Jackson Kirkman-Brown, senior lecturer in reproductive biology at the University of Birmingham and director of the Centre for Human Reproductive Science, Birmingham.
The concerning point is that women are more or less subjected to expensive fertility treatments all the time, with the existing fertility treatments such as IVF shelling out thousands of pounds from the patients.
It is worth noting point that there are only 33% of the total fertility problems which are caused to due to women, and the remaining problems lie in their partner. Then, why all the time women are being treated for the same despite being in good condition?
Though the compounds found so far have cleared the laboratory tests, they would soon be put through clinical trials too, so that some sort of resolution to male fertility can be found out. The team is of the view that the compounds they have found could make the sperms swim towards the uterus, which would escalate the possibility of conceiving.
The team from the University of Birmingham has managed to develop a gel which can push the swimming ability of sperm cells, which would ultimately lead to resolving the problem, making a couple start their family once again.
