Yellowstone Super-Volcano Facts Come to fore

As per a recent study, the Yellowstone super-volcano’s next action should be based on its previous activities. A group of researchers from the Washington State University and the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre have conducted the study and have found that the volcano is much stronger than it is actually thought.

It has also been revealed that no such sort of action is going to take place in which half of the United States will be washed away with the magma that will ooze out of the volcanic eruption. Ben Ellis, one of the researchers, said, “The Yellowstone volcano’s previous behavior is the best guide of what it will do in the future. This research suggests explosive volcanism from Yellowstone is more frequent than previously thought”.

It has been further revealed that biggest ever eruption that took place in the volcano some two-million-years-ago, was not a single eruption. There were two eruptions, which took place some 6000 years apart.

They got to know about the same through a new high-precision argon isotope, which is capable to telling the difference between the two eruptions. It also has a sharp camera lens, which makes things crystal clear.

The first eruption was of 2200 cubic kilometers and second eruption took place some 6000 years ago and added other 290 cubic kilometers. Ellis, who is a volcanologist and postdoctoral researcher at Washington State University, said that the latest isotope dating technique has helped them to know the rate of decay.

In order to assess the difference, the study researchers assessed three rock samples, which were different rock layers. These pieces were taken to the lab and were crushed, so that the researchers could study the difference.
