In the wake of controlling the rising suicide rate among young people, the federal government has made up its mind to financially support the means by which things can be made a lot better in Western Australia's Kimberley region.
The move which would inject $6 million over four years for the noble cause had been applauded by the Greens and the Kimberley Land Council (KLC), which is of the view that there is dire need to pay attention to the issues engraved in the Kimberley region. It was found that the youth suicide rate is one in 1200 a year in the questioned region as compared to one in 100,000 in NSW and one in 3300 in the Northern Territory.
"Our young people are dying at disproportionate rates. This must be stopped. We cannot allow it to go on and risk losing an entire generation of young people”, said Chief executive Nolan Hunter, who has termed the youth suicide as a national emergency.
It is being expected that whatever the government does is in sync with the Aboriginal people as they are highly affected by the rising youth suicide rate.
With the move being appreciated by one and all, it would be worth seeing how these funds make a difference in the rising suicide rate.
