Scottish Children Facing Obesity Scar

While there is no doubt that childhood obesity very much exists, it has been found in a recent report that one among ten Scottish children is categorized as obese by the time they start going to school, thereby sending warning signals that the rising scar of obesity is making things all the more serious for one and all.

Not even this, the report also showed that there are many who are not even indulging in the recommended time of 60 minutes daily exercise, thereby making things all the more complicated for children. More or less children are occupied in watching TV and doing other stuff on computers, and that’s making them even more susceptible to range of health complications.

In response to the government’s annual Growing up in Scotland (GUS) report, opposition parties have showed their dissatisfaction in the way the government had failed to address the underlying concerns of obesity in children. “These figures are very shocking and far worse than many people would have imagined”, said Dr. Catherine Hankey, a senior lecturer in human nutrition at Glasgow University, who is of the view that implications of such issue can be very scary.

There is need for the intervention of the SNP government so that the scar of childhood obesity can be eradicated once and for all.
