As per recent reports, it has been revealed that Sauk County Public Health Department is urging residents to get booster shots to fight against whopping cough. It has been reported that the number of cases of whooping cough are on a rise.

The health department has subjected that since the past three weeks, as many as 30 cases of whooping cough have been administered in Sauk Prairie and Baraboo areas.

The disease also known as pertussis can be prevented by vaccination. However, it has been exclaimed that the immunization cannot be given to babies younger than 2 months of age. Also, it has been unveiled that infants up to the age of 1 year cannot be fully protected.

Hence, it is being advised that these babies should be given booster doses instead, so as to minimize the chances of being affected by pertussis.

Sauk County Public Health Director Cindy Bodendein said, “Vaccinated children are protected up to age 5, but because immunity wanes by adolescence, boosters are recommended for both children and adults”.

She emphasized that certain people may be eligible to avail the vaccination for free. However, in case of the other group, it is recommended that they contact the health department and fix an appointment for themselves.
