In a shocking revelation, it has been made clear that there would be a fine of £90,000 imposed on the NHS. It was done after it was noticed by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) that there has been the "serious breach of the Data Protection Act" which amounts to serious repercussions.
It was found that some 45 faxes were sent to wrong places and that’s what cannot be tolerated. It was found that the trust had sent list of patients from St John's Hospice to the wrong person, which can make the personal information of patients vulnerable to any misuse.
"Patients rely on the NHS to keep their details safe. In this case Central London community healthcare trust failed to keep their patients sensitive information secure”, said Stephen Eckersley, head of enforcement at the ICO, while claiming that such practice has been done for the past three months which makes it all the more unacceptable and worrying. It is indeed worrisome that not even a single person could decipher what they have been doing for so long and it was only found when the receiver personally informed the NHS.
There is need for some sort of checks to be placed so that such things doesn’t happen again and not even a single patient is being put to any kind of uncomfortable position in the time to come.
