South Africa Wins Bid to Host SKA’s Telescope

After winning two major parts of Square Kilometer Array (SKA) telescope’s three components in a bid, its celebration time for team, who prepared the winning bid for South Africa.

Recent reports suggest that Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor and her team were congratulated by President Jacob Zuma over their win.

It has been reported that it was last Friday, when SKA Organization declared that South Africa and Australia will be hosting project for SKA’s most advanced telescope.

It has been termed that two biggest components of the telescope will be assembled and built by the team of South Africa, while one will be built by Australia. Thus, Africa has been subjected to be responsible for 70% of the project.

In a statement, President Zuma declared that he is very happy and proud for the achievement of the team. He said, “Africa is indeed rising. South Africa is confident that the country will deliver on the expectations of the continent and world”.

Moreover, he emphasized that the achievement could have been possible, only due to support from African Union endorsement and other countries, including Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia and Zambia.

It has been revealed that the telescope will be assisted with 3,000 dish antennae and the project is expected to initiate by 2016 and complete by 2024.
