Research Links Waist Size to Diabetes Risk

A recent research has unveiled a link between waist size and probability of Type 2 diabetes. It was claimed by a team led by Dr. Claudia Langenberg from the Medical Research Council (MRC) Epidemiology Unit, UK, that those having large waist circumference, are more likely to develop the disease.

While there is no doubt that obesity can trigger range of health concerns, and perhaps that's what made the team claim the same. The claim was based on the examination of date of over 340,000 individuals from eight European countries. It was done to identify to what extent these people are at the risk of developing diabetes type 2.

"We do not suggest replacing BMI as a core health indicator, but our results show that measuring waist size in overweight patients allows doctors to 'zoom in' on this large population group and identify those at highest risk of diabetes", said Dr. Claudia Langenberg in PLoS Medicine, while asserting that more than 33% of the UK adult population is overweight and simultaneously at an escalated risk of diabetes.

There is dire need for one and all to understand that bringing positive changes in the life style can shove off the risk of many diseases.
