Study Suggests Smokers Eating Fruits and Vegetables More Likely to Quit Smoking

Findings in a recent study proposed that smokers always had an idea of which food and drink will enhance their taste of tobacco and which ones will make them feel nauseated. They are aware that things like meat, alcohol, caffeine etc, will enhance their taste of smoking, while fruits, vegetables, curd, milk, juices, will make them feel disgusted and sick.

However, this study suggests that eating loads of fruits and vegetables will help these smokers to fight back strongly.

It has been reported that this is the first ever study taken up, which focuses on relation between consumption of fruits and vegetables and smoking cessation.

Public health researchers from University of Buffalo (UB), who have undertaken the study, stated that they surveyed around 1,000 smokers, who were aged 25 and above. It has been recovered that the researchers held telephonic interviews, which was random.

The researchers asserted that they called up the respondents again after 14-months and asked them whether they had quit smoking in the previous month or not.

Researchers affirmed that they were not aware of the fact that whether the recent quitters increased consumption of fruits and vegetables, or smokers who ate fruits and vegetable were more likely to quit.

Those who consumed this diet were three times more likely to quit smoking for at least 30 days.
