Lipstick’s Name Lures Women

Lipstick’s Name Lures Women

While women adore applying makeup, it has been found that majority of the women are lured by the brand name of the lipstick they want to use instead of the color. Apart from this, smell is also being rated as one of the selection criteria. It has been claimed by a team of researchers after they examined how national brands boost their sales up.

It has been observed during recession that there have been efforts made by companies to make the packaging all the more attractive so that more and more women purchase the product. "The findings show, beyond simple color names, that most of the lipsticks are named after food, beverages, sex, and romance”, said the lead author, Professor Debra Merskin, from the University of Oregon. The study was based on the examination of the names of
1,722 lipsticks from 52 national brands.

It was found that instead of brands named after birds and animal, food related products were more preferable. The same result has even been backed by a spokesperson from feelunique. com, which has some 15,000 beauty products to offer. There is need to extend the research further so that a lot more is able to known about what makes women to pick one lipstick over another.
